Hyundai Motor announced on July 6 that 10 units of the world’s first mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck “XCIENT hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck (XCIENT Fuel Cell)” will be shipped to Switzerland.
Although some car companies have the technology of hydrogen fuel heavy trucks, most of them stay at the stage of concept cars and basic models. Few companies have realized the mass production of hydrogen fuel heavy trucks, and have really brought hydrogen fuel heavy trucks to the market for commercialization. As of now, only Hyundai Motor is the only car company that uses it.
The export of XCIENT hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks to Switzerland is the first time Hyundai Motor has entered the Western European heavy commercial vehicle market, and it is also a springboard for occupying the hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicle market one step ahead of other car manufacturers. This is of strategic significance to Hyundai Motors.
The XCIENT hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck shipped on the same day will be delivered to Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility, a joint venture of H2 Energy, a Hyundai Motors and Swiss hydrogen fuel solution specialist officially announced in September last year. It is understood that Hyundai Motor will export 40 additional units by the end of this year, and will provide 1,600 units in stages by 2025.
After the XCIENT hydrogen fuel cell heavy truck arrives in Switzerland, Hyundai Hydrogen Mobile will carry out refitting of refrigerated cargo containers, etc., and provide it to places where there is a demand for heavy trucks such as comprehensive chain stores and food distribution companies that combine supermarkets and gas stations.
Hyundai Motor realized the mass supply of hydrogen fuel cell heavy trucks in the truck field after passenger cars, and expanded the world’s highest level of hydrogen fuel cell technology leadership to the commercial field. Taking this opportunity, Hyundai Motor once again consolidated the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle Leading brand status.
